Spork (214th post - 213th day of the year)

*

Jagged (213th post - 213th day of the year)

*

I like the jagged cutouts in this property's fence. They resemble mountain peaks. They appear to be cut out of some kind of sheet metal.

Park (212th post - 212th day of the year)

Monument (211th post - 212th day of the year)

*
This monument is called “La Jornada” (The Journey). It is in honor of the expedition led, in 1598, by Juan de Onate, from present-day Chihuahua to New Mexico. Nearly 600 settlers accompanied him, along with Mexican Indian allies and Franciscan friars. They passed through present-day Albuquerque, along the route that became El Camino Real. That summer, of 1598, the first of many Hispanic settlements in New Mexico was established.

Summer (210th post - 212th day of the year)

*

When I was a kid, hearing the ice cream man's music meant "Summertime"!

Beginning (209th post - 209th day of the year)

*

Finally, after waiting on the architect's plans, and then waiting for building permits from the city, we are BEGINNING the construction of the new wing of our church building.

Heat (208th post - 207th day of the year)

*

It's 102 degrees right now, and was 103 degrees at some time today. That's more HEAT than I care for.

Spiral (207th post - 207th day of the year)

How do you take a picture of something that is LOST?! I lost the wrist strap to my monopod awhile back. I really miss it.

Ice (199)

*
In this version of the iced tea photo, I Photoshopped some water droplets onto the glass. I think it makes it look more appealing (plus it was a fun PS exercise).

Mmmm, nothing better on a hot summer day than a glass of iced tea.

Wild (195)

*
Today, as we turned onto the street where we live, my husband spotted this WILD desert box turtle, crossing the street. We stopped the car, and Dan went to the rescue. He put the turtle on strip of gravel, beside the sidewalk. His head, which had pulled inside, out of fear, soon began poking out.

At first, he seemed determined to go back into the street.

Don't you think he looks a little perturbed at our rescue efforts?

Finally, we got him heading in the other direction, and he "scurried" (can turtles scurry?) to the other side of the sidewalk and into some shrubs in the nearby yard.

Good luck, Turtle!

Train (Re-post, not counted)

Yes, I had already posted a photo for the "Train" theme, but it was a rather pathetic attempt. So I wanted to post these, although they won't count.

This first one was taken yesterday afternoon, when we went to the station for the train's arrival.

And this one is a shot of the inside of the "Parlor Car" that we rode in.

This bridge, or, more specifically, railroad trestle, is Cascade Trestle. It was built in 1889, is 137 feet high and 408 feet long. It goes across Cascade Creek.

Ticket (189)

*
My husband and I took a day-trip on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad today, to celebrate his birthday. Here are our tickets. More pictures to come!

Sunglasses (188)

*

These mounted police officers needed their SUNGLASSES, since they were facing directly into the setting sun on the 4th of July.

Puddles (187)

*

Albuquerque isn't known for its rain, or its puddles, so when I saw this puddle in the parking lot of my workplace this morning, I thought I'd better capture it.

Crowd (183)

*

I was in the middle of this CROWD, waiting to board the Park 'n' Ride buses, after the fireworks show. I held my camera up over my head to snap this, as I am short enough that I couldn't see much except the back of the head of the girl in front of me (at least she had pretty hair!).

Cupcake (182)

*

The store label reads "9 ct white cupcakes w/ white icing." White icing?!

Radio (181)

*

These RADIO towers stand just west of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Park, where I watched fireworks last night, and where, every October, the International Balloon Fiesta is held. During the 2004 Fiesta, the Smokey Bear balloon blew into one of the towers and became caught on it. You can read about it, and see photos of the rescue, HERE.
