Bent (265th post - 284th day of the year)

*
This little lamp can be BENT to any angle, to light the surface properly. Oh . . . you noticed the clothes pin?! It's rather large, isn't it? A co-worker gave it to me as a joke - you know . . . to clip together all those large reports I work on. LOL.

Reminder (264th post - 284th day of the year)

*
This little calendar book serves as a REMINDER to me of appointments and upcoming events.

Royal (263rd post - 283rd day of the year)

*
This is about as royal as I'm going to find around here, I think! He is a king, after all!

Self-Portrait (262nd post - 287th day of the year)

*Riding home in the car after a short day-trip to Socorro, NM.

Holiday (260th post - 282nd day of the year)

*The stores here are getting ready for the upcoming HOLIDAY season - Halloween being the first one.

Rubbish (259th post - 282nd day of the year)

*Some neighbors just moved out of their house. This is a pile of rubbish they left for the trash man.

Cobble (258th post - 282nd day of the year)

*
After hunting all year, I've given up finding "real" cobble stones. But this is the floor in the entry way of a local restaurant, which is as close as I'm going to get, I guess.

Cartoon (257th post - 279th day of the year)

*
It took me a couple days to realize that I had another picture from the Balloon Fiesta that would work for one of the themes . . . Nemo, the famous Disney cartoon character!

Inside Out (256th post - 278th day of the year)

*My husband recently gave up his hard contact lenses to go to the soft, pliable, disposable "Dailies." He tells me that it's sometimes hard to figure out if they are right side out or inside out. He turned one inside out for me, just for this picture.

Costume (255th post - 278th day of the year)

*I don't know . . . maybe this isn't a COSTUME. Maybe they were real Storm Troopers who stood guard while the Darth Vader baloon ascended (see below). I told him to "smile" but he didn't seem to be in the mood.

Balloon (254th post - 278th day of the year)

*
Just a few of the 650 balloons participating in this year's festival.

Hat (253rd post - 278th day of the year)

*It's a tradition, at the Balloon Fiesta, for people to wear outlandish hats. Here are a few I snapped this morning.

Performance (252nd post - 278th day of the year)

*These young girls were getting ready for their dancing PERFORMANCE at the Balloon Fiesta. They were the Matsiko Children's Choir, from Africa.

Queue (251st post - 278th day of the year)

*Standing in line for the park 'n' ride bus, after the Balloon Fiesta.

Festival (250th post - 278th day of the year)

*Today is the opening day of the International Balloon Fiesta - Albuquerque's biggest FESTIVAL of the year.

Invention (249th post - 265th day of the year)

*
The wheel - one of the earliest INVENTIONS! This wheel was on a snazzy little Ford Model A (I think), parked near Starbuck's.

Leather (248th post - 264th day of the year)

*
Most of our family room furniture is made of LEATHER.

Rainbow (247th post - 264th day of the year)

I finally "caught" a rainbow, this evening, from my backyard. In the second picture, I zoomed way in to capture just the end of the rainbow.

Measure (246th post - 263rd day of the year)

*
I did some baking this week. Here are the ingredients all MEASURED out.

Barcode (245th post - 263rd day of the year)

*
The barcode from the envelope in which my passport was mailed.

Passport (244th post, 263rd day of the year)

*
My hubby and I just got our first passports. We're hoping to get to use them in a year or so!

End (243rd post, 263rd day of the year)

*
Some trees around here are donning their fall colors, which signals the END of summer.

Footprints (242nd post - 255th day of the year)

*

My granddaughter and I went for a walk this morning. There was one little puddle, made by the lawn sprinklers. Of course, she had to step in it and make little footprints on the sidewalk.

Casual (241st post - 254th day of the year)

*

This pose is about as CASUAL as you can get, don't you think?

Precious (240th post - 254th day of the year)

*

Okay, I know grandmas are a little biased - but this little girl is most PRECIOUS to me! And I'm getting to spend a week with her!

Icing (239th post - 246th day of the year)

*

I spent many hours preparing and baking some Danish pastry over the past couple days. The next-to-final step: brushing on some ICING. The final step: indulging!

Lock (238th post - 241st day of the year)

*

My mother saved this LOCK of my baby hair in my baby book.

Silk (237th post - 241st day of the year)

*

The same exchange student (see below) gave me this Japanese silk scarf for Christmas the year he lived with us. The colors are so vibrant!

Diary (236th post - 241st day of the year)

*

One of our Japanese exchange students, who lived with us for a year, faithfully kept a diary while he was in the US. He was going to throw it away before he went home, but I told him, "Someday you'll want this. It holds so many good memories, and will be a treasure to you." I told him I'd keep it for him until he wants it. It's been 17 years, and he still hasn't asked for it! [Edit: I just realized it has been 19 years rather than 17! Where has the time gone?!]

Plug (235th post - 241st day of the year)

*

A fire hydrant, also known colloquially as a FIRE PLUG in the United States.

Flight (234th post - 241st day of the year)

*

Distance (233rd post - 238th day of the year)

*

A distant mountain range in Utah.

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Opening (232nd post - 237th day of the year)

*

This is the Wilson Arch, beside the highway, going south out of Moab, Utah. Isn't it a beautiful OPENING in the rocks?

Boat (231st post - 237th day of the year)

*

Do you see the boat? It's on the Colorado River as it passes through Moab, Utah. I LOVE the red cliffs and how their height dwarfs the boat.

Fog (230th post - 235th day of the year)

*

I've been waiting for FOG since January 1, and had to go 1150 miles from home to see some! These were taken in Missoula, Montana, this morning.

Juice (229th post - 235th day of the year)

*

A frozen JUICE concoction.

Doubtful (228th post - 235th day of the year)

*
We'd come over 1000 miles under blue skies, but, with just 100 miles to go, it became DOUBTFUL that we'd arrive before it started to rain.

And our doubts were confirmed a few minutes later. This was taken between swipes of the windshield wiper.

Map (227th post - 235th day of the year)

*

They say "40 is the new 30." Likewise, I think, a GPS is the new map. This was taken in Montana, when we were a couple hundred miles from our destination.

Emergency (225th post - 233rd day of the year)

*

We had to make an unexpected road trip to Montana. While going through Monticello, Utah, we were stopped, briefly at the scene of what looked to be a serious accident, with many emergency personnel in attendance.

12 of 12 for August 2008

I just posted my 12 of 12 pictures for August, right HERE. Take a look.

Lonely (224th post - 225th day of the year)

*
I usually get to work ahead of most people in my office suite. Sometimes I have to turn on the lights. It's a little LONELY until others start arriving.

Collage (223rd post - 222nd day of the year)

*This is a collage of a collage, if that makes sense. On the wall of Jimmy's Cafe (see my "collections" theme, right HERE), there is a huge collage of lots of people named Jim, Jimmy, James, etc. I took pictures of portions of the collage, and then made my own collage out of the various snapshots. Oh my! You might need to click on the image to enlarge it to see the details. (The template for the collage came from the Limitless Kit, by Jenny Binder
of Heirloom Scrapbooks).
