Fancy Dress (35)
* Valentine's Day is coming! When I was out shopping on Saturday, I couldn't pass up this little red polka-dot dress for my granddaughter. Don't peek, Sweetpea! It'll be coming in the mail soon.
I only realised yesterday that this one has a different meaning in the US to the UK. Fancy dress in the UK can mean smart dress, but it primarily means a costume, like a clown or pirate or something. I realised, when I said something to a friend about her being able to do this theme at the costume party she was going to, and she got confused about why fancy (to her, "posh") dress would be there.
Another case of two nations divided by a common language! But a pretty dress - bright and fun!
Oh, that's interesting, Helen. Well, I think most of us in the US would figure this meant some kind of evening wear, but it's not likely I'll be seeing any of that ;-) so I thought I'd stretch it a bit to apply to this little girl's dress.
This is my second try. My comment won't publish. I love the little red dress, and know Clara will look like a doll in it. I will be waiting to see pictures of her wearing it. Love..
Precious little dress, I miss the days of buying these for my little girls who are no longer little.
I'll be getting dresses for my granddaughters at Easter - Feb is still cold up here in Canada so Easter is the fun time for us with spring around the corner.
Pat, yes, we are from Alaska, so I know about waiting until closer to summer to put little dresses on the little girls! But Sweetpea lives in a nice warm climate. I hope she gets lots of use out of the dress.
Julie - I also hope to get to see a picture of her in the dress. I'll share it, if I do.
The general idea of this challenge is to take 366 pictures during the year 2008, each one depicting one of the themes listed below. The themes can be taken in random order, and the pictures don't absolutely have to be one per day. If you miss posting a picture one day, it can be made up. The bottom line is that you post 366 pictures spread out over the year and covering all 366 themes.

Well it is a smart dress for a little girl, so it fits the US definition of it!

Yay! "Pooh pots"! Don't worry, Sweetpea didn't peek. Just me.
"Pooh pots" indeed! :-) (for those of you who don't speak "two-year-ese," that's "polka dots.")
What an adorable dress! I hope you'll find reason to post a picture of it being worn by Clara.

Pretty dress. I'd come across the difference in meaning in 'fancy dress' between UK and US before, funny some of these differences.
