Umbrella (152)

Don't ask me to explain this piece of art! But, an umbrella is an integral part of it. (Click on photo to see more detail.)

Picnic (148)

*

Today, Memorial Day, was a perfect day for our picnic at the zoo. We got there around 11:00 a.m., and found we had lots of company -- families and friends enjoying picnic lunches on the lawn.

Cat (147)

*

The tiger at the zoo didn't want to cooperate for a pose, but here's a crop of his beautiful striped-coat and white under-belly, as he lay, taking a siesta.

Broken (146)

*

We've had a couple of thunder storms, accompanied by some high winds, move through Albuquerque in the past couple days. I'm not sure when this happened, but we found it this afternoon on our back patio. It was my wind chime, made of Indian decorated clay bells. I'm usually happy to find one of the 366 themes to photograph, but this one made me sad.

Go Wild (145)

A Mardi Gras poster -- an invitation to "go wild."

Sweets (144)

*

You'd think, by this time in life, that I'd have outgrown my affinity for Red Vines. But I haven't. I love them. But I'll share . . . Have one, if you like ;-)

Expensive (143)

*

I remember when it was 20 cents a gallon!

Rain (142)

*

This afternoon a thunder shower passed through. Remember this grass and fence from my "snowflake" theme?

Pyramid (141)

*

As far as I know, there's no pyramid in Albuquerque. But his hotel is called the Marriott Albuquerque Pyramid North. Closest thing to a pyramid I could find.

Tick (139)

*
See the check mark? What we call a "check mark," on this side of the big pond, is called a "tick" by our wonderful UK friends, one of whom created this list of themes!

Anyway, this "Quality Chek'd" logo (or is that "Quality Tik'd"?) belongs to our local Creamland Dairy.

Cafe (134)

*
We drove to Bernalillo this morning for our Saturday breakfast, and ate at The Range. Here's what one on-line reviewer (Gayot - The Guide to the Good Life) says about The Range: "The Range Café has become an institution. It has grown to multiple locations with spots in Albuquerque plus the original Range Café & Bakery in Bernalillo. It's renowned not just for its bodacious portions of good food, but for its quirky sense of humor which includes clouds painted on the tables and colorful artwork that includes a Volkswagen bus driving through a wall." I couldn't have said it better :-)

Blue (133)

*
Is it a flying saucer? The eye of an alien? No. It's the power light on our DVR. I love the color, and only tonight thought of using it for my Blue theme.

Cactus (not a "counter")

*
I already posted my cactus theme photo, but now some of the cacti around here are beginning to bloom. I thought I'd share this shot that I took this evening, of my potted cactus on the back patio. For 11-1/2 months out of the year it's a grizzly, ugly pot of spiny cacti. But for the two weeks or so that it blooms, I think it's lovely, and makes up for the other months.

Pop Culture (132)

*

Beam me up, Scotty! This house, in Albuquerque, was designed by Bart Prince, a world-renowned architect who lives and works in it. I took the pictures from my parked car, from three different angles. The pictures just don't do it justice. I think this house, designed and built in 1983-84, represented pop culture at its best!

This public art, familiarly called "The Chevy on a Stick" by locals, is at the corner of San Mateo and Gibson, in Albuquerque. The real name of this tiled arch with the Chevy on top is "Cruising San Mateo I." Isn't it a kick?

History (127)

*

Here is the Owl Bar and Cafe, in San Antonio, New Mexico, a sparsely populated agricultural community near Socorro, New Mexico.

San Antonio was the gateway to the Trinity Site, where the first atomic bomb was detonated in 1945. A number of the scientists working at the Trinity Site lodged here, at the "Owl." One story says that the closest telephone to the Trinity Site was located in the Owl, and that one of the scientists went there to make the historic phone call, reporting that the bomb had been successfully detonated.

San Antonio is also famous as the birth place of Conrad Hilton, and, in fact, his father used this same building (The Owl) as part of his family store.

Today, The Owl is known for it's AMAZING green chile cheese burgers. Locals come from miles around for them.

Clouds (126)

*
I'm in Carlsbad for a few days. Last night we had a big thunder/lightning and rain storm. Around supper time tonight this is what the sky looked like - big ole' thunderhead clouds. I think we're in for another storm tonight.

View (125)

A view from Carlsbad, New Mexico. That's the Pecos River in the foreground, with rain falling from the clouds in the distance.

Rose (123)

*

Albuquerque humidity is running about 9% right now, so you'd never find dew drops (much less, raindrops) on the roses! I admit to having spritzed these drops onto the rose for the sake of the picture.
